New Trial Databases Available!

New databases on trial, Spring 2017 edition!

Below are the current database trials available at the AUM Library:

Grove Art Online (aka Oxford Art Online)
Grove Art Online is the foremost scholarly art encyclopedia covering all aspects of art from prehistory to the present day, offering the full texts of the 34-volume Dictionary of Art and The Oxford Companion to Western Art, as well as all subsequent updates and enhancements. Containing over 45,000 articles and more than 6,000 images, Grove Art Online offers the most extensive and easily searchable online art resource available today, a virtual library of art reference unparalleled in scope and depth.                             Trial ends April 7, 2017

Grove Music Online (aka Oxford Music Online)
Grove Music Online offers the full texts of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 8th edition, The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, 2nd edition, as well as all subsequent updates and enhancements. Includes over 60,000 signed articles and 30,000 biographies contributed by over 6,000 scholars from around the world.                                                                                         Trial ends April 7, 2017  

Kanopy Streaming Video
Films ranging from documentaries, indie and foreign films, to must-see classics and blockbuster movies.
Access requires username and password. These can be obtained at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor of the AUM Library.                                                                                   Trial ends April 15, 2017

Mango Languages
Learn a new language with this interactive database that provides step by step lesson plans for 71 different languages. This database features ESL lessons for Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese speakers. A text translator is provided.                                                                                                        Trial ends April 14, 2017

NoodleTools
NoodleTools is an online research management platform that promotes critical thinking and authentic research. Students stay organized as they evaluate information, build accurate citations, archive source material, take notes, outline topics, and prepare to write. The classroom environment allows librarians and teachers to provide feedback, monitor individual contributions to group work, and view statistics about source use. NoodleTools is also designed with online student privacy in mind.

Each NoodleTools user must create a personal folder by clicking the “Register” button on the trial login page.Trial ends April 1, 2017

Statista
Statista is one of the leading statistics companies on the internet. With a team of over 250 statisticians, database experts, analysts, and editors, Statista provides users with an innovative and intuitive tool for researching quantitative data, statistics and related information.                                                                                                                        Trial ends April 1, 2017

World Politics Review
This unique database is a daily online publication and resource for foreign policy professionals and readers with a serious interest in international politics and foreign affairs. Its original articles are written by a network of more than 400 contributors from around the world, including subject-matter experts from journalism, research organizations, academia, government and elsewhere.                                                    Trial ends June 5, 2017

The Library is accepting nominations for its 2016 Betty J. Tims Friends of the AUM Library Faculty and Staff Service Awards. The awards recognize individuals for outstanding dedication to activities and functions which lead to improvements in library services; for dedicated effort in providing or improving access to library holdings; or for offering quality suggestions which result in more efficient and/or more cost-effective library operations. AUMazing Workshop Series

The AUMazing Workshop Series starts August 29th! Sponsored by the Warhawk Academic Success Center, Learning Center, Career Development Center, and YOUR Library, these free student workshops will introduce attendees to library and academic support resources that will help them on their academic journey.

All workshops will be held in the Library Computer Lab on the 2nd Floor of the AUM Library Tower. While registration isn’t required, it is encouraged as seating is limited! You can register electronically via the AUM Library calendar or choose from the times listed below!

Refreshments will be provided at all workshops and attendees will have the opportunity to win AUM goodies, iTunes gift cards, and Amazon gift cards!

This event will allow international students to learn about the structure, layout, and resources of an American library while introducing them specifically to the AUM Library and Librarians. New databases on trial, Summer 2016 edition!

The AUM Library is happy to announce two new databases on trial:

JoVE– Clinical Skills is a database of online videos teaching laboratory and clinical skills through simple, easy to follow video demonstrations.  This trial ends July 31, 2016.

ValueLine Research Center is a product from the publishers of ValueLine Investment Reports.   The database is comprised of financial information and analytical tools needed to expand investment vehicles and structure a dynamic professional portfolio
The Value Line Research Center includes:
The Value Line Mutual Fund Survey: Reports and ranks on more than 18,000 mutual funds.
The Value Line Special Situations Service: Recommendations on emerging growth stocks with exceptional long-term capital gains potential.
The Value Line Daily Options Survey: Daily evaluations and ranks on about 200,000 options, 80,000 longer-term options (LEAPS), and more.
The Value Line Convertibles Survey: Analysis of over 600 convertible issues, nearly 120 warrants, and more.
The Value Line Research Center also includes historical financial data on nearly 4,000 additional stocks, covering approximately 8,000 companies.
This trial ends August 18, 2016.

Foundation Center Workshop

Getting Started with Foundation Grants to Individuals Online
The AUM Library will host a free workshop for students, artists, researchers, and other individual grantseekers looking for funding from private foundations, corporations, and grantmaking public charities. The workshop will highlight the electronic and print resources available for free in the Library, with a demonstration of the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, a searchable database that provides information on approximately 10,000 grantmakers that support individual grant projects.

Seating is limited: to register, or for more information, please contact Amanda Scott at ascott20@aum.edu or 334-244-3684. Anyone interested in individual grantseeking is welcome to attend, including faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.
